What has to change when I put taller handlebars on my motorcycle?

Handlebars in every bend — ape hangers, drag bars, T-bars, beach bars, trackers, and stock-replacement shapes — plus risers and riser blocks, grips, and heated-grip kits. Bars are the single biggest change you can make to how a bike feels and looks, and the geometry is all in four numbers: rise, pullback (sweep), overall width, and center width at the clamp.

Check clamp diameter first: most cruisers run 1" bars, metric and dirt bikes 7/8", and fat bars taper from 1-1/4" at the clamp to 1" at the controls. Going taller ripples outward — apes usually need longer cables, brake lines, and wiring extensions, and bikes with internal wiring want bars drilled or slotted for it. Grips must match your throttle: cable-throttle and ride-by-wire grips are not interchangeable, so filter by your exact model before ordering.
